Resonance Corner: Weaving Stories Within a Space of Resonance

Sewon Screening is a film festival that has run every year for over a decade. With each edition, it has introduced a wealth of new films and programs, each built around its own theme. This year, Sewon Screening 12 returns under the theme “Resonance,” bringing with it a lineup of programs designed to offer participants something fresh, among them, Resonance Corner. The program creates an intimate space for participants to share their experiences, whether as film lovers or as filmmakers in their own right. Within that space, the experiences people bring are meant to take on new life, sharpening into stronger emotions and broader ways of thinking.

According to Program Director Virgi, Resonance Corner draws its inspiration from another Sewon Screening program: Public Lecture, which began life as an open, public-facing lecture series. That program became the starting point for the team to imagine something more intimate and personal, a smaller, closer kind of gathering, and from that idea, Resonance Corner took shape as one of the programs of Sewon Screening 12. In keeping with Sewon Screening 12’s overarching theme of Resonance, Resonance Corner was built with the hope that participants would walk away not just reconnected with their own feelings about film, but also enriched by stories told from perspectives different from their own, and even by new connections that might carry them forward in their own creative work.

The stories participants share won’t simply stay within the room, either. They’ll go on to take shape as a zine, which participants will compile and put together themselves. To make that possible, Sewon Screening 12 has partnered with Sewon Publishing, an independent publishing studio that will guide participants through turning their stories into a physical, readable zine. In that sense, Resonance Corner isn’t just a space for meeting and sharing stories, it’s a space for making something together.
Resonance Corner will take place during the Sewon Screening 12 Main Event, running from September 23 to 25, 2026, at the Old Rectorate Building of Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta. Spots are limited, so anyone interested, Sobat MinWon included, can register directly through the official website, sewonscreening.com, for a registration fee of Rp30,000.

A film, in the end, always comes to a stop when the screen fades to black. But the feelings and stories it leaves behind can go on living in memory, growing into something that stays with us, carrying meaning long after the lights come up.
