Community Crash: MM Kine Klub UMY — A Fun Movie Night That Sends You Home With New Friends!

Yogyakarta, 15th June 2026 After a relentless string of college assignments, a long break is exactly what every student waits for: a chance to unwind and recover from all that pressure. Sewon Screening 12 delivered just that kind of escape through its Community Crash program.

This edition of Community Crash brought MM Kine Klub UMY and Sewon Screening together in one shared screening space, packed with activities designed to create new experiences and friendships. Here’s a rundown of the highlights nobody should have missed.

1. Tying Knots and Making Friends: An Icebreaker With Strings Attached

The evening kicked off with the “Tying Knots and Making Friends” session, which randomly split participants from both communities into small groups using colored string as markers, yellow for MM Kine Klub UMY and purple for Sewon Screening.

Each group had to have at least four members with an even mix of colors: two purple and two yellow. From there, participants got to know each other through casual conversation while braiding their strings into a creative piece, which they later presented to the room along with its meaning. One group shaped their strings into a chain, explaining it as a symbol of mutual affection forged through their conversation, a moment that drew an enthusiastic cheer from everyone else.

2. A Movie Night That Had Everyone Laughing Out Loud, Then Lost in Thought

The fun continued with a screening of four short films created by students from Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta and members of MM Kine Klub UMY. The lineup included Atas Nama Budiman, The Mit, Ibuku Keren Banget, and It Didn’t Start With The Rain. The first three screenings were met with nonstop laughter and spontaneous reactions, but the mood shifted once It Didn’t Start With The Rain rolled, closing out the session on a more emotional, reflective note. Throughout the screening, the room stayed lively as everyone felt free to react out loud to whatever was happening on screen.

3. Asbun Design: The Riotous Redubbing Session That Stole the Show

The night reached its peak with “Asbun Design,” a spontaneous, freewheeling redubbing activity between MM Kine Klub UMY and Sewon Screening. Each group picked a scene from the four films they’d just watched and rewrote the dialogue and sound effects however they pleased. The room erupted in laughter and excited shouting as the audience heard absurd lines and off-the-wall dialogue that had nothing to do with the original story. What started as a silly bit ended up becoming a genuinely entertaining showcase of spontaneous creativity.

Even though it lasted just one night, Community Crash with MM Kine Klub UMY packed in a memorable mix of icebreakers, movie screenings, and laugh-out-loud redubbing sessions. The event served as a reminder that watching films doesn’t always have to be a solo activity, doing it with people you’ve never met can open up entirely new perspectives. So don’t miss what’s coming next, and keep an eye on Sewon Screening’s
