Yogyakarta, September 22, 2026 — The moment has arrived: Sewon Screening 12 has officially opened. First introduced back in April as a pre-event, the festival has now reached a new chapter as its main event, bringing fresh updates while staying true to the same spirit that has always defined it, delivering a breath of fresh air to every audience member who comes to Sewon.
The event officially kicked off at 1:30 PM local time at the Concert Hall of Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta. In attendance were Vice Rector III, the Head of the Film and Television Study Program, representatives from several community forums, several Student Executive Board (BEM) chairs from ISI Yogyakarta’s faculties, and other distinguished guests. The ceremony was also attended by M. Soleh Artiawan, S.Kom., Film Licensing Coordinator at the Directorate General for the Development, Utilization, and Advancement of Culture.
The event opened with a series of remarks, including from Festival Director Aflah, who explained the thinking behind this year’s theme, Resonance. According to Aflah, the choice was far from arbitrary, the hope is for every viewer to find their own “vibration” while watching the films screened at Sewon Screening 12. The idea is simple: once that frequency is found, its positive effect can spread and inspire new works that carry forward the same spirit Sewon Screening was created to champion.
As part of the opening ceremony, ISI Yogyakarta’s Vice Rector III struck a gong three times, marking the symbolic inauguration of Sewon Screening’s 12th edition. The sound rang through every corner of the hall, met with cheers and thunderous applause from the audience.
The proceedings closed with the Concert Hall’s screen lighting up to reveal the updated Sewon Screening 12 teaser, shown to an audience for the very first time. The footage was set to the familiar jingle “Angin Segar dari Selatan” (“Fresh Wind from the South”), a tune that has accompanied every edition of Sewon Screening. Its melody, instantly recognizable to loyal attendees, sent its own vibration through the hands clapping to celebrate the opening of Sewon Screening 12’s main event.
