Sewon, 2025 — Kicking off a new decade with a bold initiative, Sewon Screening has announced the launch of its first-ever short film funding program dedicated to supporting community-driven projects. Titled the Sewon Short Film Fund, the program is a tribute to the vibrant communities that have been instrumental in sustaining this annual event over the years.
Designed to provide financial assistance to selected film communities, the program aims to support the production of short films by emerging filmmakers within those groups. While the exact implementation timeline and launch date have yet to be disclosed, the announcement has already stirred excitement among young creatives active in community-based filmmaking.
During a press conference, Program Director Richard Natan Oktavianus stated that this year marks the inaugural edition of the funding initiative. “For now, the program is limited to film communities that have already been involved in Sewon Screening. However, in the future, we hope to open it up more broadly to the public,” he said.
Participating communities in this year’s Sewon Screening will be given the opportunity to present story concepts, project plans, and engage in collaborative discussions with other groups as part of the selection process. The initiative also incorporates a competitive element, where finalists will be required to refine their concepts and narratives in front of other communities during the grand final.
This development comes as welcome news to the many communities that have supported Sewon Screening over the years. The organizing team also expressed their intention to expand the community network further, enabling young filmmakers to build stronger cross-group relationships and collaborations.
Over the past decade, Sewon Screening has seen a consistent rise in audience numbers, a success the organizers attribute largely to the unwavering support of these communities. “Without the community, Sewon Screening wouldn’t have come this far,” Richard emphasized.
In addition to launching the funding program, this year’s Sewon Screening will also host various community-centered events and remain open to the general public. This marks the beginning of a renewed commitment to celebrating the spirit and passion of film communities.
Ultimately, the program is expected to serve as a spark small but significant for communities to broaden their networks and showcase their creative potential.
See you soon!
