The Curtain Falls on the Pre-Events, Sewon Screening 11 Main Event Dates Finally Announced!

On August 29, 2025, Layar Institut Seni Indonesia unfolded in full force. The cool Yogyakarta night, 245 unwavering pairs of eyes, and a screen standing tall at the heart of the Boulevard campus. This was more than just a film screening it was a statement. A cinema space does not always need thick walls; sometimes, it only needs people willing to sit and watch.

The evening opened with a performance by four dancers, their sharp and furious movements embodying a narrative of “resistance.” It was not just symbolic, but the very soul of Sewon Screening 11’s theme: Resistance.

As the Boulevard reverberated with the charged energy of resistance, Festival Director Evan Rizky took the microphone not for a ceremonial greeting, but for a reflective address. He mapped out the entire journey of Sewon Screening’s Pre-Event programs that had reached countless corners of the community through Layar Tandang, Grebek Komunitas, and Grebek Massal. In collaboration with three faculties Performing Arts, Fine Arts, and Recorded Media Arts Layar Institut Seni Indonesia stood as the culmination and closing of this year’s pre-event series, bridging the way toward the Main Event of Sewon Screening 11.

The evening also marked the long-awaited public announcement: the Sewon Screening 11 Main Event will take place from September 21 to 25, 2025. This revelation, delivered by the Festival Director, was far from an ordinary announcement or a defensive press release it was a shared pact, a declaration of trust. Announced at the peak of the pre-event energy, when spirits were burning brightest, the news was not met with polite applause, but with cheers, high-fives, and shouts that pierced the night. It was not a reaction it was liberation. It proved that when a community claims ownership of something, even a date can feel like a collective triumph. The anticipation instantly transformed into rising expectations for the main festival.

Layar Institut Seni Indonesia was more than a pre-event; it was proof that cinema spaces can emerge anywhere even in the cold night air as long as there are eyes willing to gather, sit, and celebrate resistance through art. That night became both the culmination of the pre-event journey and an emotional bridge into the Sewon Screening 11 Main Event. The announcement, delivered at the height of collective energy, was not received as mere information, but as a moment of liberation and a shared victory born of collaboration. This affirmed that a festival rooted in community does not simply present films it creates a space where everyone feels that the story belongs to them.
