Sewon Screening Strengthens Its Network Through “Grebek Komunitas”

Yogyakarta, July 20, 2025 – Bringing a fresh burst of energy at the beginning of its new decade, Sewon Screening 11 launched a special program titled “Grebek Komunitas”, held in mid-July. The program visited three universities in Yogyakarta and collaborated with local film community forums. Among them were Kine Klub UMY (Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta), EMAC EDSA UNY (Yogyakarta State University), and Forum Film MMTC (Multimedia Training Center). This initiative served as a form of appreciation for the film community ecosystem that has supported and collaborated with Sewon Screening since its inception a decade ago.

The close relationship between Sewon Screening and film communities is nothing new. From its early beginnings, Sewon Screening emerged out of a collective initiative by film enthusiasts in Yogyakarta who were responding to the lack of platforms for short film appreciation. The festival has since become a meeting point and networking hub for filmmakers from both within and outside the region to exchange ideas, build connections, and collaborate.

This year, with the theme of Resistance, Sewon Screening took the initiative to step out of its comfort zone. Rather than waiting for audiences to come to them, they proactively reached out to local film communities, offering a refreshing collaborative experience.

“Usually, people come to our comfort zone. This time, we decided to step out, visit our peers, reconnect, and invite our fellow community members to watch a series of films themed around resistance,” said Rama Sae, one of the committee members of Sewon Screening 11.

This move reinforces the image of Sewon Screening as a space deeply rooted in the film community. Through Grebek Komunitas, Sewon Screening once again affirmed its commitment to connecting and empowering film communities cultivating a stronger spirit of collaboration and mutual support for the years ahead.
