PRESS RELEASE | FILM FESTIVAL FOR ALL AUDIENCES

Yogyakarta, April 16, 2025 – After a decade since 2015, Sewon Screening is embarking on a new chapter with the spirit of Fresh Air. In its 11th edition, this independent film festival reaffirms its commitment to reaching a broader audience. Sewon Screening is no longer just for circles or film practitioners, now it’s open to everyone. Through a diverse range of inclusive programs and visualizations that are easily accessible to the public, the festival serves as a shared space to enjoy films from diverse perspectives.

With the theme “Resistance,” Sewon Screening 11 will be held in two series of events: a Pre-Event and the Main Event will take place from September 22 to 27, 2025, at the Concert Hall of the Indonesian Institute of Arts Yogyakarta.

As part of the spirit of renewal, this year Sewon Screening introduces the Sewon Short Film Fund, a funding program for short films as a form of appreciation for the film community that has been an essential part of the festival’s journey. Through this initiative, Sewon Screening aims to expand community networks and support the sustainability of young filmmakers’ works. In this 11th edition, the relationship with the community will continue to be nurtured through different meeting spaces that will be presented during the festival.

Richard Natan Oktavianus, the Program Director, stated, “It is no longer just for the film circle, not just for practitioners. What we often forget is the film audience, as they are the core of the film itself. No one will enjoy a film if it weren’t for its audience.”

Diversity screening venues will be available during the Pre-Event and Main Event, spread across different locations and accessible for free to the public. Complete information regarding the schedule, screening locations, and program details can be accessed through Sewon Screening’s social media and official website.

Sewon Screening 11 also opens opportunities for those who want to collaborate via sponsorship and partnerships as part of efforts to sustain the independent film festival and alternative spaces in Indonesia.

The future of cinema is in our hands. See you in September at Sewon!
